This is a super soft and buttery copycat recipe of Mastro’s Butter Cake, a fancy, delicious, and incredibly enjoyable butter cake served at Mastro’s.

I think everyone knows Mastro’s, they serve so many delicious dishes and desserts that you’ll always remember. I fell in love with their famous Herb Roasted Chicken, and I still remember how good it was the last time I had it there.

I also enjoyed their Butter Cake, a round 4-inch cake topped with tasty cream cheese, a drizzle of strawberry sauce, and a mint garnish for decoration. Just looking at this dessert was pleasing, and the taste was absolutely amazing.

With each bite of this Mastro’s Butter Cake, you’ll experience a soft yet slightly crunchy cake that blends perfectly with the creamy goodness of the cream cheese, which melts so beautifully in your mouth.

I’m sure anyone who loves butter cakes will enjoy this copycat of Mastro’s Butter Cake recipe. And don’t worry, it’s not hard at all.

I made four cakes since there were four of us in the house, so everyone got to enjoy this delicious dessert, and they did, The whole family loved it, especially my husband, as it reminded him of the original one served at Mastro’s.

I tried to make the cake as simple as possible, using classic ingredients like unsalted butter, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract, just like any traditional butter cake. For the cream cheese topping, I kept it simple too, using only cream cheese, powdered sugar, and heavy cream. Sometimes, I even fill the cake with chocolate sauce, to create a great mix of flavors with the buttery cake, This will make it sweeter and delicious of course.

If you want, you can customize the cream cheese. Don’t forget that sweet drizzle on top, I didn’t make one, but it would definitely be a great addition to your dessert, both for the taste and the presentation.

How to Make Mastro’s Butter Cake?

Step 1:

First, set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and sprinkle flour in four small round cake pans. (You can use fewer or more pans if needed, four pans are enough for me since there are four of us in the house.) Put them aside for later.

Step 2:

In a big bowl, mix the soft butter and sugar until it looks smooth and creamy. This will take about 3-4 minutes.

Step 3:

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well each time. Then, mix in the vanilla and almond flavors.

Step 4:

In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt. Then, add this to the butter mixture, switching between the flour mix and buttermilk until it’s all blended. But, don’t mix too much.

Step 5:

Pour the batter into the pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes. After that, Let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes.

Step 6:

While the cakes cool, mix the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla in a bowl until smooth. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until it’s fluffy. Mix the whipped cream with the cream cheese mixture.

Step 7:

Once the cakes are cool, place them on plates. Spoon the creamy topping on each cake and let it melt a little. You can drizzle some strawberry sauce on top as They did at Mastro’s, This is optional for a fancy and beautiful touch. Enjoy.

some Tips!

  • To soften butter quickly, cut it into small cubes and let it sit out for 15-20 minutes.
  • I love to use almond extract, it adds a subtle, nutty flavor that makes the cake much better.
  • Mix the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients very well until combined. But don’t Overmix.
  • If you don’t have 4-inch pans, you can use a larger pan. After baking, slice the cake into your desired shapes and sizes. Also, make sure to adjust the baking time accordingly.
  • Remember to Fill the cake pans only about two-thirds full to allow room for the cakes to rise.

How to Store Leftovers?

If you have any cake left, put it in a container with a lid and keep it in the fridge for up to 2 days. Put the cream in a different container with a lid and keep it in the fridge too.

What to Eat with Mastro’s Butter Cake?

I love to enjoy Mastro’s Butter Cake after finishing a chicken-based meal like Chicken Milanese or Chicken Sinatra. The first time I tasted this butter cake was after savoring a chicken dish at Mastro’s, so now it’s a tradition for me to pair it with a delicious chicken entrée. You can also enjoy it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or any ice cream you desire on the side or on top as a substitute for the cream cheese, For a creative twist, try serving it with a glass of espresso. Also a tall glass of iced tea or a creamy latte pairs wonderfully with the rich, buttery cake.
