If you follow my blog, you will notice that lately, I’ve been tasting some new ice cream flavors to enjoy. This is summer, and there’s no better time than now to explore different kinds of ice creams. So, I made this Tropical Mamey Ice Cream yesterday. The taste was a little different from the usual ice cream we make, but it was good to have and explore.

I got the idea to make this Mamey Ice Cream from a TV show I watched where they talked about mamey fruits. Since I have a Hispanic market close to my home, it was easy for me to get the fruit. I used it as the base of this ice cream, following the same directions and ingredients as you would with any other ice cream based on fruit.

I loved the taste; to be honest, it was similar to sweet potato with sugar or a mix of sweet potato and mashed pumpkin. Imagine this taste chilled perfectly and enjoyed as ice cream—it’s a great experience to have for sure.

What is Mamey Ice Cream?

Mamey is a tropical fruit that tastes like a mix of sweet potato and mashed pumpkin, with a hint of almonds. I used mamey because I was looking for a different taste to enjoy. The Mamey Ice Cream tasted really good—creamy and sweet, made with mamey, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, and a little salt. After chilling and mixing everything, I used a machine to turn it into ice cream that we could scoop and eat on hot days. So unlike the mamey fruit, the ice cream is similar to any homemade ice cream you can make at home.
