1 cup orzo pasta 1 pound Italian sausage, sliced 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes 4 cups chicken broth 1 teaspoon dried basil 1 teaspoon dried oregano Salt and pepper to taste 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Boil a big pot of salted water. Put in the orzo and cook for about 8-10 minutes. Drain it and put it aside.

Heat olive oil in a big soup pot on medium heat. Add the sausage slices and cook for 5-7 minutes. Take them out and set them aside.

In the same pot, add chopped onion. Cook for about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and stir for one more minute to keep it from burning.
