class="ez-toc-section-end">

Candied habaneros are sweet and spicy treats made from colorful peppers and sugar. First, You just need to mix sugar and water in a pot and heat it until the sugar dissolves. Then, you need to add slices of habanero peppers and let them cook in the sweet liquid until they become soft and so tasty of course. After they cool down, keep them in the fridge until we’re ready to eat.

Ingredients:

1 cup habanero peppers, sliced

2 cups granulated sugar

1/2 cup water

Optional: lime zest for added brightness

How to Make Candied Habaneros?

Step 1:

In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water over medium heat, stirring continuously until the sugar completely dissolves. This should take about 3-5 minutes, and you’ll notice the liquid becoming clear as the sugar dissolves.

Step 2:

Once the sugar has dissolved, carefully add the sliced habanero peppers to the saucepan. Be cautious when handling the peppers, Stir the peppers into the syrup until they are evenly coated.

Step 3:

Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, reducing the heat if necessary to maintain a low, steady simmer. Allow the peppers to simmer in the syrup for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. During this time, the peppers will soften slightly, and the syrup will thicken.

Step 4:

After 10-15 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat and set it aside to cool. The candied habaneros will continue to thicken as they cool, so don’t worry if the syrup seems thin at first. Let the mixture cool to room temperature, which should take approximately 30-45 minutes.

Step 5:

Once cooled, carefully transfer the candied habaneros and syrup to a clean, airtight container. Make sure the container is completely dry to prevent any moisture from affecting the preservation of the candied peppers.

Some Tips

Use a non-reactive saucepan, such as stainless steel or enamel-coated, to prevent any metallic flavors from affecting the syrup.

Stir the sugar and water mixture continuously until the sugar is completely dissolved to ensure a smooth syrup without any graininess.

Don’t forget to Adjust the cooking time based on your desired level of softness for the habanero peppers. This should take about 3-5 minutes, and you'll notice the liquid becoming clear as the sugar dissolves.

Once the sugar has dissolved, carefully add the sliced habanero peppers to the saucepan. Be cautious when handling the peppers, Stir the peppers into the syrup until they are evenly coated.

Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, reducing the heat if necessary to maintain a low, steady simmer. Allow the peppers to simmer in the syrup for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. During this time, the peppers will soften slightly, and the syrup will thicken.

After 10-15 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat and set it aside to cool.
